Once again the Holiday season has snuck up on us. Where did the time go? Weren’t we all just spending our weekends at Tybee, lathering on the sunscreen and relaxing? Well, if you’re anything like us, you’ll be looking for ways to give back to the community this holiday season. Below you will find simple ways that you can give without breaking the bank.

1. Donate your gently used shoes to a local homeless shelter.

Atlantic Foot & Ankle Specialists has teamed up with Fleet Feet Savannah and the Islands YMCA in order to make sure that those in need have shoes on their feet! If you would like to donate your gently used shoes, simply drop them off at Fleet Feet(3405 Waters Ave. Savannah GA 31404)the Islands YMCA LINK (66 Johnny Mercer Blvd Savannah, GA 31410) or any of Atlantic Foot & Ankle Specialists locations. We will make sure they reach the local Savannah Union Mission.

2. Volunteer your time at a local Nursing home.

Money can be tight around the holidays, so why not volunteer your time? Many nursing homes and assisted livings are home to the elderly who have no family to spend the holidays with. You can brighten someone’s day just by spending the afternoon playing cards and engaging in conversation. If you’ve got some extra time and would like to know where to start, contact Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah. We frequently visit Azalealand’s residents to make sure their feet are happy. You might just have a doctor in common!

3. Send a care package overseas.

The holidays can be the hardest time of the year for the men and women serving our country. This year we’ve sent off a total of 8 holiday care packages to Afghanistan. We included items such as foot powder, tooth brushes & toothpaste, holiday socks, pedicure kits, foot warmers, candy and lots and lots of snacks! Soldiers Angels has a great program that allows you to adopt a soldier to send gifts to, if you don’t already have one in mind. And really, no gift is too small. You can send letters, cards or even photos. Just knowing that someone is thinking about them and cares enough to send a card is enough to make a Soldiers day.

Take the time this season to give back to your community, and remember what the holidays are really about. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
